Pachelbel's Canon in D major (P. 37) is one of the most recognized pieces in classical music, composed around 1680–1706 by German Baroque composer Johann Pachelbel (1653–1706). Originally written for three violins and basso continuo, the canon is built over a repeating ground bass (ostinato) of eight notes and has become a cultural touchstone featured at weddings and in popular culture worldwide.
