Traditional Hungarian Folk Song
"The Orchestra Song," also known as "The Instruments," is a traditional Hungarian folk song adapted as a choral and vocal teaching piece, often used in music education to introduce students to orchestral instruments. Its simple, memorable melody makes it a popular warm-up and pedagogical tool in choral settings.
Franz Schubert
Erlkönig (D. 328, Op. 1, 1815) is one of Schubert's most celebrated Lieder, a dramatic setting of Goethe's supernatural ballad depicting a father racing through the night to save his dying child from the Erl King. Schubert wrote it at age 17, and the piano's relentless triplets combined with distinct vocal characterizations for narrator, father, child, and Erl King make it a supreme test of both singer and accompanist.
Adolphe Adam
"O Holy Night" (Cantique de Noël) was composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847 to a poem by Placide Cappeau, and has become one of the most beloved Christmas carols in the world. This piano and vocal arrangement was prepared for a 2015 Christmas Eve service at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Anonymous (traditional); arr. Carlos Manuel Puga Otero
"Fruit Canon" is a lighthearted educational vocal canon based on an anonymous traditional song, arranged and popularized online by Carlos Manuel Puga Otero (Cororeando). The piece playfully names various fruits in a round format, making it an engaging piece for choirs and beginner musicians.
