The Lacrimosa from Mozart's Requiem (K. 626) is among the most emotionally overwhelming movements in the choral repertoire, breaking off after just eight bars in Mozart's own hand. This piano transcription by Sigismond Thalberg, published in his collection "L'art du chant appliqué au piano" Op. 70, exemplifies the 19th-century Romantic ideal of making orchestral and vocal works sing through the piano.
