Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 35 (1878) is one of the pillars of the violin concerto repertoire, initially rejected by its dedicatee Adolf Brodsky as "unplayable" before becoming a beloved staple of the concert hall. Its soaring first movement theme is among the most recognizable in all of Romantic orchestral music.
