Creating a New Score

This tutorial walks you through creating a new score from scratch in ScoreTail. Choose from 16 instrument templates and start composing or arranging right away.

Open the Dashboard

When you log in to ScoreTail, you'll see the dashboard. From here, you can create a new score.

  1. Log in to ScoreTail to view the dashboard
  2. Click the "+ New Score" button

Click "+ New" on the dashboard to start creating a new score

Choose a Template

A selection of instrument templates will be displayed. Choose one that matches your needs. There are 16 presets available.

Click a template to select it (blue border indicates selection)

Solo

Simple (Lead Sheet)Single staff, perfect for melodies and lead sheets
Piano SoloGrand staff for piano with treble and bass clefs
GuitarSolo guitar (standard notation)
OrganThree-staff organ (manuals + pedal)

Ensemble

DuetTwo-part arrangement
TrioThree-part arrangement
String QuartetViolin I, Violin II, Viola, and Cello
Piano TrioViolin, Cello, and Piano

Vocal & Band

SATB ChoirFour-part vocal arrangement (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass)
Voice + PianoVocal line with piano accompaniment
Jazz ComboSax, Trumpet, Piano, Bass, Drums
Rock/Pop BandVocals, Guitar, Bass, Keys, Drums

Orchestra & Winds

Create the Score

Once you've selected a template, click the create button.

  1. Click your preferred template from the list to select it (a blue border will appear)
  2. Click the "Create" button

What You Can Do After Creation

After the score is created, you'll be taken to the editor. A blank score with 4 measures is ready for you to start editing right away.

Rename the Score

Go back to the dashboard and use the score menu to rename your score.

Add Measures

New measures are automatically added when you input notes up to the last measure.

Change Key Signature

You can change the key signature after creating the score.

Change Time Signature

The default is 4/4 time. You can change it after creating the score.
