Importing MusicXML Files

MusicXML is a standard format for exchanging music data between notation software. You can export from most notation apps including MuseScore, Finale, and Sibelius.

Import Steps

  1. Log in to ScoreTail and go to the dashboard
  2. Click the "Open MusicXML file" button
  3. Select the file you want to import (.musicxml, .xml, or .mxl)
  4. The file is loaded and the editor opens automatically

Compatible Software

You can export MusicXML from and import into ScoreTail from these notation apps:

  • MuseScore
  • Finale
  • Sibelius
  • Dorico
  • Guitar Pro
  • Noteflight
  • Flat.io

Tip: MXL format recommended

MXL (compressed MusicXML) has a smaller file size and uploads faster. If your software supports MXL export, we recommend using it.

Importing ABC Files

ABC notation is a simple text-based format for representing music. It's widely used in traditional and folk music communities.

T:Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
M:4/4
K:C
L:1/4

  1. Click the "Open MusicXML file" button on the dashboard
  2. Select a file with the .abc extension
  3. The ABC file is automatically parsed and the editor opens

ABC files can be created with any text editor. Files starting with "X:" or "%abc" are automatically recognized as ABC format.
